Youth belonging to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Obuasi East Constituency in the Ashanti region have rejected the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections, MyNewsGh.com reports.
The group wants a fresh parliamentary primary for the
election of another candidate or they campaign against Samuel Aboagye, who they
believe is a known member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
At a press conference in Obuasi on Tuesday, December 31,
2018, the aggrieved youth accused the party’s constituency executives of
selling the parliamentary candidacy to the highest bidder, and for that matter
to the “mole of Chairman Wontumi”.
“We are the grassroots of the party in the constituency
and none of us, from the branches to the wards knows Samuel Aboagye; we only
know him us a person who campaigned vigorously for the NPP in 2016”, Salih
Bin Elias, spokesperson for the group told the media.
He said the plain vote buying that characterized the election of Samuel Aboagye was a manifestation of role of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a.k.a Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) who had vowed to decide who become the opposition NDC’s parliamentary candidates in the Ashanti region in his bid to annex all the 47 seats for his party.
The group has sounded a stern warning to the national
executives to either annul the candidacy of Samuel Aboagye and run the primary
afresh in the Obuasi East Constituency within one week or prepare for a
remarkable drop of up to 10000 votes in the 2020 elections.
