The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) for the 2019 motor year officially sold out 16,000 DV DP number plates but end of year statistics showed that there are 70,000 of the plates in circulation, MyNewsGH.com has filed.

In what appears to be the work of a cabal or a group of people profiteering on the back of lapses in the DVLA system at the state agency, a number of both fake ans genuine DV, DP number plates were cut and sold to the general public with the proceeds going straight into private pockets.
In an attempt to block the loopholes, the DVLA Chief Executive Officer Kwesi Agyeman Busia is believed to have stepped on some toes who hitherto stood to benefit directly or indirectly from the statusquo.
The latest disclosure comes on the back of a rumoured frosty relationship between the CEO of the DVLA and the board of directors led by Frank Davies. The CEO is accused of running a one man show at the state institution.
According to earlier reports by our sister outlet the Herald, the last board meeting of DVLA on January 9, Mr Busia, was heavily reprimanded for embarking on a major project; the launching of a digitized DP Sticker numbering system at the country’s various ports of entry to replace the existing DP number plates in use, without the authorization of stakeholders. He is also accused of ignoring the security implications that the non-use of the number plate pose to law enforcement and crime detection and prevention in the country.
The DP Sticker policy, was also believed to have had no approval from the board, the Ministry of Transport led by Kweku Ofori Asiamah, as well as the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

New information available however indicates that whereas there has been administrative lapses in the implementation of the Sticker policy, it remains a nuanced solution to the spate of fake trade plates.
