Rogue elements inside police service being used against NDC

The Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kakra Essamuah, indicated that “Gestapo” style arrest of the party’s National Communications Officer was a reprisal act towards Mr Sammy Gyamfi for constantly exposing the corrupt activities of the incumbent.

“While remaining law-abiding, we will not sit like ducks on top of the water to be picked up one after the other by a handful of rogue elements within the Police acting on misguided orders from the Presidency,” he stressed.

The comment comes after security officials ambushed Sammy Gyamfi with an arrest warrant after participating in a television discussion on Accra-based UTV on Monday.

The arrest was in connection with an ongoing cybercrime offense leveled against him by Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante.

Mr. Essamuah further accused Nana Bediatuo Asante and the government of intimidating and harassing the opposition party members in an attempt to silence them in the upcoming 2020 general elections.

“Because he [Nana Bediatuo Asante] had hoped that the fact of his nuclear family being members in the Akufo-Addo government will remain hidden,” Mr. Essamuah added.
