A young and vibrant Ghanaian businessman by name Nelson Boateng has launched a business called Nelplast Ghana Limited which uses plastics as ‘concrete’ to build roads and houses.
In a short documentary sighted by YEN.com.gh, the founder and CEO of Nelplast spoke about the relevance of his venture, saying it is not in any way meant to kill the cement businesses that exist.
Nelson explains that his only motive is to make sure that the planet stops getting destroyed by the numerous plastic waste that is churned out on a daily basis.
Watch the video documentary below:
It is reported that Ghana generates about 22,000 tons of plastic waste on an annual basis and the greatest portion of this number just ends up in gutters, oceans and the environment.
Given that plastics take about 500 years to start decomposing, it is crucial that something is done to put them into a commercial use before the entire planet gets ‘chocked’.
According to Nelson, the concrete producers in the country currently produce about 20,000 bricks a day but his company is able to do 1,500.
Speaking about the advantages of using plastic bricks, the gentleman affirms that the plastic bricks do not only save the planet from waste pollution.
He indicated that the plastic bricks do not grow algae if exposed to water as concrete bricks do. Also, they are strong, resilient to adverse weather conditions and lasts a lifetime.
