Staunch member of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Joshua Alabi has cautioned the party against diversionary tactics being employed by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) so as to take the attention of the NDC off the pressing issue of the new voters’ register.

While the NDC is strongly opposed to the compilation of a
new register by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, and has staged protests
against it, the NPP is in full support of the EC’s decision, and has been
defending it vociferously.
But Prof Alabi, a former Vice Chancellor of the University
for Professional Studies- Accra ( UPSA) credited with transforming the
institution, has reminded the NDC to be wary of their opponent’s machinations
and stay focused.
“Let’s guard against the diversionary tactics of our
opponents. I hope by now we should all be expecting diversionary tactics from
our political opponents,” he advised in a post sighted by MyNewsGh.com.
Prof Alabi encouraged the NDC to follow through with its
plan with respect to their opposition to
the EC’s new register given that they are on the path to victory.
“We have a well-structured plan towards the December
elections. What is on the table now is the voter registration and the conduct
of the EC. Please let’s be focused with our plans. We are winning,” he added.
The issue of the new register has become a contentious one; while the EC is adamant that it is going to compile a new voters’ register, the NDC and many civil society organizations have expressed opposition to the move, insisting that it is a needless, wasteful venture. But the NPP wholeheartedly supports the EC.
A recent meeting of stakeholders at the instance of the EC’s
eminent advisory committee ended inconclusively after some participants
allegedly traded blows.
