The Vice President made the comment in a government’s ‘Town Hall meeting’ held in Kumasi on Tuesday February 11, 2020 covered by MyNewsGh.com under the theme ‘Demonstrating Fulfillment of our promise’.
In a shade to the opposition National Democratic Congress
(NDC), Dr. Bawumia noted that the NDC holds the all-time worst performance
record in terms of managing the cedi revealing that the Akufo-Addo
administration is the best Ghana has ever had in any government’s first term in
office.
“No government has performed better in terms of managing the
cedi in its first term in government than the Akufo-Addo led administration.
The closest to our achievement is that of President Kufuor but his happened in
his second term. Since 1992, no government comes close to us as far as managing
the cedi.”
He challenged the moral basis of the opposition in its quest
to wrestle power with the NPP in the upcoming December polls disclosing that
when the Mills-Mahama government assumed power in 2008, they skyrocketed the
exchange rate from 1.18 to 4.2 after their eight years in power.
“All the worst performances happened under the NDC. They
hold the record of the first worst, second worst and third worst but not
withstanding that they want to challenge the NPP.
They quadruple the exchange rate performance from 1.8 to 4.2 after 8 years and we have gone from 4.2 to 5.35 in three years. It is not the same. If the cedi is to match what the NDC record is, we have to do a quadruple jump. Thankfully, the cedi is performing well reflecting in the fundamentals.”

He again stated that, the cedi is currently the best
performing currency in the world against the United States dollars noting that Ghana’s micro economic
fundamentals remain stronger than ever.
