A leading member of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Victor Smith has hinted that John Dramani Mahama’s running mate would be someone who has been loyal to the course of the party over the period
According to him, any individual who comes in with his/her own agenda will be found out so the former President will select someone who has served the political party.
On the former President’s choice, he mentioned that considering the fact the President is from the minority ethnic group, there’s no way he will select someone from the same sector.
He noted that in the country’s history, nothing of the sort has ever happened and that John Dramani Mahama won’t be the first to do that.
“I believe the Mahama definitely has an idea of who he wants to work with, who he thinks can help him transform this country with the vision that we had when we came into office and before the NPP took over to continue from where we took off because these are jokers, the current administration are jokers.”
“It takes to be controversial when you drop any hint. It just happens that our flagbearer is from the Northern Region. I think looking at the political history of our country, we’ve so far had a situation where no two minority ethnic groups have formed the ticket. So I think it may be [that] since president Mahama comes from a minority ethnic group vis-a-vis the Akan population, ideally, I think the person might be an Akan.”
Issues surrounding John Dramni Mahama’s Running mate has over the weeks been topical on various political platforms.
With a few months to the 2020 elections, one would have expected that the former President will announce his Running mate as of now but that seems not to be the case.
He has over the months denounced several reports suggesting particular candidates.
However, the Communications Director for the NDC promised that the name was going to be announced in March but that seems not to be in sight as the former President has asked Ghanaians to focus on fighting the COVID-19 rather than who becomes his flagbearer.
