Ghana’s Central Bank has made a sudden U-turn on its decision to make their hospital available to only their staff and some Very Important Personalities (VIPs) who contract the deadly Coronavirus.
The Health Minister briefing the Press Wednesday said there have been discussions with the Bank of Ghana on giving out their hospital to help in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus.
The Minister mentioned that the Bank agreed to give out two floors of the hospital which can contain 20 beds but added that the bank agreed that their staff and some VIPs can use the hospital when they contract the virus.
“We have had engagements with the Bank of Ghana and they have released two floors [of BoG hospital] to take care of 20 beds for our use. Because the facility does not belong to the Ministry of Health, Bank of Ghana has agreed that their own people and some VIP personnel will be allowed there.” He revealed
His comments were greeted with anger from social media commentators and sparked debates on several platforms.
But in a statement, the decision to grant access to just VIPs and Staff of the Central Bank has been rescinded the decision to make available the hospital space for only their staff and VIPs.
The statement mentioned that the Bank of Ghana Hospital is opened to the general public and assured Ghanaians of the Bank’s support to the country towards the fight against COVID-19.
