Some overzealous members of opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) eager to project the achievements of former President Mahama and the NDC have resorted to a rather bizarre ‘innovation’: the creation of fake tweets by prominent personalities praising the former President for his remarkable achievements in the health sector.
The ‘innovators’ settled on personalities who have been vocal and exemplary, especially in the fight against the novel coronavirus. They chose personalities that could reasonably author the statements attributed to them.
One such fake tweets is attributed to the Director-General of the World Health Organization(WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who has become a global icon for his commitment to the fight against COVID-19.
His tweet fake reads: “Thank you @JDMahama for investing in #Ghana, this will help us contain and fight #COVID-19 in the country rapidly.
You deserve praise. #coronavirus.”
The other tweet is supposedly that of Rwandan President Paul Kagame praising former President Mahama for blessing Africa with his efforts.
It reads: @JDMahama Your effort has taught us much and we appreciate you. #Africa is blessed having you. This will go a long way to bless Africa.”
But mynewsgh has established that these tweets that have been widely shared on social media by NDC members are patently fake.
Though it is not uncommon for the two personalities to praise others on Twitter, they have not authored the tweets in praise of former President Mahama.
Mr Ghebreyesus recently praised President Akufo-Addo for his moving speech on the fight against coronavirus praising him for his assertion that economies can be brought back to life but humans can’t be resurrected once they die.
