Upper East Regional Minister Ms Tangoba Abayage has assured that the first COVID-19 patient in the region is in stable condition and may be discharged next week based on additional test
that will be conducted.
Ms Abayage in a statement issued on Saturday said “based on additional information gathered from GHS, the patient is currently on admission at the Regional hospital pending additional laboratory test next week to declare her fully recovered from COVID-19 before discharge.”
The patient, a 30 weeks pregnant 33 year old resident of Bolgatanga tested positive for the novel Corona Virus, making the first case to be recorded in the region.
The statement added that ” the patient is clinically stable and in good health as at today 4th April, 2020, the sore throat and cough have subsided and she is able to eat without discomfort.”
Eleven close contacts have been identified and are being followed up. Some staff of the hospital including midwives, nurses and Doctors have been put under self quarantine pending tests.
Ms Abayage further prevailed upon residents of the region to stay calm, be vigilant and to maintain social distance, observe hygiene protocols and other recommended precautions.
