Security analyst and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Irbard Security Consult Alhaji Irbard Ibrahim has appealed to flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama to make daughter of former President Rawlings Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings his running mate, arguing that she will make the NDC ticket a formidable one as the country heads for general elections in December.
Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey-Korley in the Greater Region, has been touted by many as a potential vice presidential candidate for the NDC given her appeal and pedigree.
For Alhaji Irbard Ibrahim, there are three reasons why Dr Agyemang-Rawlings stands tall among others who have been seen as potential vice presidential candidate even though she is fairly new to partisan politics and much younger.
Alhaji Irbard explained that Dr Agyemang-Rawlings will increase the chances of John Mahama recapturing the Presidency because:
“1. She is fairly new with no baggage that can be capitalized on by political adversaries. When you are new on the block without any rot from a previous appointment, things are always better
2. She is young and intelligent and will appeal to millennial and other young voters
3. She will win over female votes and the love of the international community that is particular about greater participation of women in leadership roles.”
Alhaji Irbard added that there’s even a fourth factor – the Rawlings factor (generally interpreted as the influence wielded by former President Rawlings as founder of the NDC and the likelihood of him to be much active in supporting and campaigning for the party.)
“There is even a fourth reason which has to do with the Rawlings Factor,” he added.
Many others such as former long-serving Finance Minister Dr Kwesi Botchwey, Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and former Education Minister, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and a host of others have been seen as likely running mates of former President John Mahama
