Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Nana Obiri Boahene says the National Democratic Congress has made the name of President Akufo-Addo and the EC the solution to their internal problems including the lack of a running mate. He singled out John Mahama, the party’s torchbearer and E.T Mensah’s successor, Sam George as main culprits.
He noted that Sam George had described the President as a walking contradiction. Obiri Boahene who was furious said “what was the basis for bringing Akufo-Addo’s name in his issues with the Electoral Commission? When Mahama wakes up he mentions Akufo-Addo’s name, when Sam George has his problems he mentions Akufo-Addo’s name why?.” he said. Some leading members of the NDC on Saturday stormed the Escape Hotel in Prampram to halt a meeting the Electoral Commission was holding.
According to the NDC, the meeting was contrary to the provisions of injunction a court granted to prevent the Electoral Commission from holding its proposed workshop which was scheduled for April 25 ,2020.
Reacting to the actions taken by the NDC officials and their constant mention of the President’s name, Nana Obiri Boahene mentioned that the Electoral Commission is an autonomous body that does not work with orders from the President.
He indicated that it’s about time the NDC focus on dealing with the EC as an independent body and stop bringing Nana Akufo-Addo into their arguments and problems with the Electoral Commission because the does not give orders to the Electoral Commission.
He indicated that the NDC is now unattractive and therefore there is the need for the political party to focus on building its structures to make it attractive and stop trying so hard to drag the name of the respected President in the mud.
“They are desperate. If you cannot choose a running mate why should you blame the NPP or the Electoral Commission? What you need to do is to make your party attractive and stop dragging the President who is revered worldwide into the mud. Stay in the mud alone,” he told Accra-based Okay FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
