Businessman and Member of Parliament(MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong believes only myopic politicians will donate items during this crisis and brand them with their photos or campaign posters
He also says it’s short foresightedness for politicians to donate food to homes and display them on social media so people can see how compassionate they are.
During the early days of COVID-19, most politicians across the country took advantage to donate veronica buckets to help market women and other members on their constituencies following the hand washing protocol appeals
However, these buckets were branded with photos and campaign posters of most of these politicians especially parliamentary aspirants
Speaking on Accra-based Happy FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Kennedy Agyapong described such politicians who want to win cheap political points as myopic individuals because this is not the time to win cheap political points.
He mentioned that he has made several interventions including providing over 400 hospitals beds, several face masks, hand sanitizers, gloves and many others but did not brand them with his face because he won’t leverage on such a crisis to gain cheap political point.
The NPP firebrand noted that politicians from both sides of the divide engaged in such abnormality; a move he described as useless and needless.
“It is myopic for any politician to donate items at this moment and brand them with their faces just to win cheap political points. It is very myopic. I saw that Mahama was sharing food and even when he gives out yam he will post it on his social media page. That is cheap. I can say I’ve donated more than Mahama has done but did you see my pictures on the beds, hand sanitizer, gloves I donated? It is cheap to do that and I’ve realized people from both sides are doing it but for me I see it as myopic,” he revealed on the show.
