Philanthropist, businessman and politician, Kennedy Agyapong says any young man or woman who aspires to join politics must as a matter of necessity have a well-paying job or business to back them if not they risk disgrace.
Ghanaian youth have over the years seen politics as a means of making good money for themselves and their families.
There are records of people who entered into politics and have since become successful out of the blue without doing much but by just playing strategic roles in political parties.
But speaking on Accra-based YFM, the Assin Central Lawmaker said the young people who enter politics with the intention of making money and do not have any business backing them will be disgraced in the end. According to him, those who think politics is a money-making machine will be disgraced after they win power to realize that the job is financially draining and demanding. He said you dont often make profit unless you want to steal because politics is very demanding.
According to him, politics especially being a Member of Parliament comes with huge demands and if you do not have the financial muscle, you’ll fall out of favour with your people.
The Youth should not think that politics is a lucrative venture because you will become a disgrace if you’ve not built a solid backing.
“The question has ask people who come to me for support to contest for Political positions especially Member of Parliament positions is whether they have jobs. This is because if you see politics as a lucrative venture where you can make money, you’ll be disgraced in the end. Politics is demanding, like you said people formed long queues in my house for money, they don’t care where you get the money all they need is for you to support them so if you don’t have a business that backs you, you will be disgraced.”
