A former Communications Minister under the John Mahama led administration says the government’s move to take advantage of COVID-19 to campaign to the people of Ghana has failed hence the denial of the billboards.
There were billboards mounted across the country preaching the need for Ghanaians to make the use of face masks the new normal as it is the only way to fight the deadly virus.
However, the billboard that preaches the use of Face masks has a photo of the President contradicting the message because he is not wearing a Face mask himself.
The Information Minister has in a tweet denied government’s knowledge of the billboards and have indicated that the city Authorities have been directed to pull them down.
But commenting on the billboards and government’s denial, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah described the attempt by government to deny knowledge about the billboard as weak.
According to him, government has knowledge of the billboards and that photos of the President on the billboards was a move by government and the NPP to market their candidate for election 2020.
He noted that the move has to campaign has backfired hence government’s insistence on not having fore knowledge about billboards.
He said “When government campaigns for election 2020 in the name of COVID-19 and it backfires”
