The Electoral Commission(EC) of Ghana has expressed shock at the alleged falsehood being peddled by the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu just to paint a bad picture of the Commission to the good people of Ghana.
According to the Electoral Commission, the Minority Leader during the Minority True State of the Nation Address last week claimed the Electoral Commission had taken delivery of PPEs from the Government of Ghana to aid it in its bid to compile the new voters’ register.
But in a statement reacting to the claims by the Minority Leader that the Commission has taken delivery of PPEs, the Electoral Commission said it has not stated anywhere, the claims made by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu and feel it’s worrying that a man of higher repute will make claims without contacting the Electoral Commission on the veracity of the claims.
The EC in its statement said since the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19, it has respected the various protocols laid down by the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health.
“The Commission takes collective decisions on all electoral processes in conformity with the country’s Republican Constitution. It is therefore equally worrying that a statement will be made to suggest otherwise with the ultimate goal of tarnishing the image of key officials of the commission,” the EC said in its statement.
“The Electoral Commission reiterated its independence saying “as stated in Articles 46 of the 1992 Constitution, the EC will like to reiterate that it shall not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority in the performance of its functions except as provided for in the constitution or any other law consistent with it,” the EC further added.
