General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has praised party member and architect of the June 4 coup d’etat, Major(retired) Kwadwo Boakye Gyan for warning that a civil war would break out in Ghana should the Electoral Commission go-ahead to compile new voters register ahead of the 2020 elections.
According to him, it is commendable that, the former military man who has experience in warfare would muster the courage to the voice out the negative repercussions of the EC’s intentions and that it is only those who don’t want to be on the side of the truth that would feel angry about those war mongering comments.
Major Boakye-Gyan had said in an interview that, “I’m telling you confidently that, in post-independence Africa, all crises and civil wars had happened on the back of disputed elections and where they are going now, they are walking us into civil war and if they want it, they will get it, quote me”.
When asked in an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM whether the NDC as a party endorsed Mr Boakye-Gyan’s comments, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the former military officer couldn’t have said it any better and that he has to be praised.
The Ghana Police Service has reportedly invited Major Boakye Gyan to assist in investigations over his comments but he was unable to attend to it because of “ill-health”.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia says it is laughable that people are calling for his arrest knowing fully well that he said the truth.
