Minority leader and Member of Parliament(MP) for Tamale South constituency Haruna Iddrisu has ruled himself out of persons currently under consideration for the position of the running mate of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) for the upcoming elections.
The race for who partners former President John Dramani Mahama going into the 2020 elections is gathering steam as names of notable individuals in the party are popping up as potential running mates of the National Democratic Congress.
Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Authority(NPA) Alex Mould has publicly expressed his interest in gladly accepting the position.
However, the minority leader and former Minister for Communications Haruna Iddrisu says though he has his eyes on the ball relating to a higher political office after serving in various positions, he is not at the moment interested in partnering the former President.
“I do not fit into the geopolitical chemistry of the running mate for now as defined by our group. Certainly I’m not in contention for running mate,” he told Joynews.
On whether he would be interested in being President of Ghana in the future, the distinguished lawmaker said “I don’t know about the future and I can’t conjecture into the future, so I’ll leave it to Allah’s Grace. I’m growing systematically. MP, Minister and I’ve been in cabinet consecutively and continuously for 8 years and that is a huge success. I understand policies, I’m now learning law making and I’m now learning to lead as a minority leader and so I certainly will have my eye on the ball”.
