Several hundreds of Ghanaians took on President Akufo-Addo under his own Facebook post for expressing his condolence to the family of killed U.S Black man George Floyd when worse have happened here with him commenting.
The President stated his position on the killing of black people by police officials in the United States of America saying it is wrong.
In a post on Facebook, the President condemned the racism in America on black lives saying “Black people, the world over, are shocked and distraught by the killing of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, by a white police officer in the United States of America.
It carried with it an all too painful familiarity and an ugly reminder. It cannot be right that, in the 21st century, the United States, this great bastion of democracy, continues to grapple with the problem of systemic racism”.
He expressed condolences on behalf of the people of Ghana to the family of George Floyd.
“On behalf of the people of Ghana, I express my deep condolences to the family and loved ones of the late George Floyd.”
He added “We stand with our kith and kin in America in these difficult and trying times, and we hope that the unfortunate, tragic death of George Floyd will inspire a lasting change in how America confronts head on the problems of hate and racism”.
While a few Ghanaians commended Akufo-Addo, most Ghanaians on the thread did not take things lightly with him at all following his post.
According to these Ghanaians, the president fails to comment on similar death situations in Ghana but is quick to speak about foreign issues. They called him “hypocrite” and “shameless”. We are NOT publishing the full insults. However link to the full post is attached.
In fact the insults were so bad that one Kassem Eliasu commented:
“Most of you here I can honestly say weren’t raised well (I’m sorry but it’s the fact) you’re out here insulting someone who’s old enough to be even your grandparent just because he made a post about support for something you think he should do you take the opportunity your hands to insult him , yet your call yourself good people of the nation my foot I’m ashamed.”
