A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Maame Yaa Aboagye has asked Ghanaians to ignore Executives of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, and throng to the various registration centres across the country.
The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has charged members of the party to reject the call to participate in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) mass voters registration exercise scheduled to begin on June 30, 2020.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the party was against the compilation of the new voters’ register because the atmosphere in the country was not conducive for the exercise.
“We say no to the new register and even if Parliament passes the legislation we will not accept it. We are not just against it because they will not accept the old voter card but because the whole atmosphere in the country is not conducive,” he said.
But speaking to MyNewsGh.com in an interview, the Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party said it’s imperative that Ghanaians and even member of the NDC ignore their executives to exercise their rights as citizens in participating in the registration process.
According to her, the same executives of the National Democratic Congress who are impressing on them not to get involved will be the first people to go out to register so they should not make them disenfranchise them.
She said “I’ve always respected Mr Ofosu but his comment is below the belt sadly he never came out to tell his party followers about the change of their decision leaving many of their followers confused. Once again, he has come out to discourage his party’s followers not to come out and register for the new voters’ Identification card just like they did with the NIA card. Everyone should mark it, these same Executives will be among the first Ghanaians to register”
She noted that the double standards of the New Patriotic Party is sickening and should not be encouraged in our body politic.
“The double standard of the NDC is too much and they cannot take us for granted again as they did in the Ghana Card registration. They are fond of doing that, they say one thing and do another thing behind close doors. The new voters’ register is a must and we’re fully committed to it as a party.”
