Member of Parliament(MP) for Effutu Constituency, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has asked the National Democratic Congress(NDC) to name its running mate if it is truly prepared for election 2020
There have been concerns about who will join John Dramani Mahama on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the December 2020 elections which promises to be a fierce competition.
Some Party members including Mahama Ayariga have said it’s delayed because the political party needs time to market its candidate in order to be appealing to the voting populace with sections suggesting he must be in the pedigree of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
John Dramani Mahama has said he has already selected a running mate but has to support in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus but promises to outdoor the person when all is over.
But reacting to this, a lawmaker for Effutu Constituency, Afenyo-Markin said it’s an indication of the fact that the NDC cannot come to a consensus on choosing a Running Mate.
He noted that elections are in June and the NDC which is the largest opposition party has not been able to settle on a candidate is a clear indication of a failed political party.
Afenyo Markin said the election 2020 will not be about propaganda but about debates and the NPP’s afraid to announce their running mate because they cannot get someone who will match the energy levels of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“2020 elections will not be about propaganda when people will go and sit on radio and be shouting. 2020 elections will be about debates. Dr. Bawumia has been prepared to debate their running mate but clearly, the NDC has internal issues and cannot reach a consensus on who becomes their running mate.”
“They have seen the energy levels of the Vice President and clearly they do not have someone to match with similar qualities. They should let us know the complete equation and stop saying the running mate is not the one to be voted for,” he told Okay FM.
