The Minority leader, Haruna Idrissu is challenging the Electoral Commission(EC) to make available equipment procured for the upcoming voter registration exercise for inspection.
He is urging the Special Budget Committee of Parliament to also show interest in inspecting the equipment before the commission begins the exercise on June 30, 2020.
The equipment are a biometric voters management system, a biometric voter registration system and a biometric voter verification system.
The Tamale South Member of Parliament(MP) told a cross-section of the media after the Special Budget Committee met the Electoral Commissioner and her team of deputies and directors that “What is even more worrying is that they say they have procured a biometric voters management system, a biometric voter registration system, a biometric voter verification system, they should make it available for inspection. And our committee should take interest in the coming days to inspect them.”
He expressed surprise that the EC now claims it is procuring PPEs contrary to earlier attempts to bastardize him.
“They have admitted now that they are procuring PPEs contrary to their attempts to bastardize me. They have no appropriation; they did not get appropriation.”
He added that the NDC minority still see no legal or technical justification for a new voters’ register.
