Every year the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) meets to advance the UN System’s agenda on sustainable development. With COVID-19 continuing to grip the world, this year’s convening holds more weight than ever. In the midst of pervasive uncertainty, the HPLF is a chance for governments and civil society to begin charting a path toward a collective recovery that is healthier, more inclusive, and more resilient than before.
For the first time, the HPLF’s annual gathering will be a virtual convening, bringing together representatives from all UN member states, as well as civil society groups. Over ten days, they will review the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and negotiate a multilateral approach for employing them to “build back better.” UNEP will be there to lead the discussion of urgent environmental issues, through five side-events that explore transforming the global economy into one that it is greener, equitable, and resilient for all.
