Deputy Director-General in charge of Corporate Affairs and Communications at the National Communications Authority (NCA) Kwame Gyan has lashed out at Ghanaians who had criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his silence on protests in Nigeria.
Ghanaians had mounted intense pressure on President Akufo-Addo, who is the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS ) to comment on the protests that had turned violent and caused the death of many protesters allegedly due to shooting by the military.
On social media, supporters of the President defended his silence on the matter, stressing that he was doing work behind the scenes and did not need speak until he found it most appropriate to speak.
But in less than 24 hours, the President tweeted on the matter, urging calm and condemning the use of violence either by the protesters or the security agencies.
In reaction, Mr Kwame Gyan, known for his expertise in Communication and brands management, lashed out at people who had demanded that the President speak on the matter.
In his excoriation, he urged them to eat up the tweet of the President and belch out to the prompt resolution of the Nigerian issue.
“Please Nana Addo has tweeted. Go and take it and eat it. And afterwards, belch and voila, Nigeria’s wahala will dissipate,” he wrote on social sighted by MyNewsGh.com
While some are against his comment, others agree with him, insisting that the pressure on the President to speak was misplaced.
Meanwhile many Ghanaians have welcomed the President’s comment on the matter, noting that it’s better late than never.
