Disqualified presidential candidate hopeful, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike has described the Akufo-Addo led administration achievements in the Agric sector as mere rhetoric, MyNewsGh.com reports.
In an exclusive interview on Kumasi-based Abusua FM with seasoned journalist, Kojo Marfo, the United Progressive Party’s (UPP) founder berated the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Afriyie Osei Akoto as having no ‘shame’ for priding himself and his ministry as a performing one.
He stated that farmers across the country have complained bitterly of post-harvest loses and as such, he finds it hard to comprehend the government’s pride in trumpeting their ‘agricultural transformation’ mantra since the Agric ministry has been a flop under the NPP.
“Kojo, does the Minister of Agric understand Agriculture? I’m a farmer myself so I know what I’m talking about. Tell me what has changed? They are day-dreaming and have disgraced themselves totally when it comes to Agric.
They say they’ve spent $500M dollars in the Agric sector but we haven’t been able to do export of over $50,000. The money has gone down the drain. We still import at the same value in all market commodities so what transformation are they talking about?
I’m still at loss as to why the Minister is still talking when he’s the one that lied to us that the price of plantain has significantly gone down and the market women came out to expose him.
We will beg the man, if he wants to transform Agric, we need Agricultural mechanization and value-added to our Agric produce. If he wants us to believe him, we need to see a significant drop in our Agric imports and be locally self-sufficient and until then, his ministry under his leadership has been a total failure.” He told Kojo Marfo, host of Abusua FM’s ‘Abusua Nkomo’ monitored by MyNewsGh.com
