“Are they confused or do they think we have short memories? Their prediction of doom for free SHS has not materialised. The results have shown that quality has not been comprised,” were the words of the Vice President of Ghana who could not fathom why John Dramani Mahama will decide to lie about launching Free SHS.
The former President John Dramani Mahama while on a campaign tour of the Upper East region insisted that “We started the programme and the NPP came and continued it”.
To him “Unfortunately, the implementation has been very poor, and so it ended us in double track. I assure you, my countrymen, that within one year, I will cancel the double track”.
But the Vice President in an address on Thursday, November 26, 2020, indicated that John Dramani Mahama and the NDC did everything within their means to ensure that the policy do not see the light of day but that could not materialize because they policy was a life changing one and the results of the first batch is an indication that quality was also not compromised.
“They even went to the Supreme Court to stop free SHS. They ran over 40 adverts against free SHS. Today the NDC and their flagbearer are looking at us and saying that they started free SHS.
Meanwhile, the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also expressed shock at the claims made by the NDC leader.
“When I promised to bring Free SHS, he said it was not possible and that I was lying to Ghanaians for their votes and that it was going to take over two decades before Ghana could implement such a policy,” Mr Akufo-Addo stated.
