The Inspector General Of Police (IGP) Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh has asked Political Party Security to stay off the polling stations on December 7.
According to him, the Security Services have provided personnel to handle security issues on the day of elections and therefore do not expect any security personnel from the various political parties.
He indicated that the only party members recognized at the Polling stations are the polling agents of the political parties and it’s imperative that electorates and other persons will stay clear off the polling stations after casting their ballot.
The Police Chief who was speaking on Accra-based Peace FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com said the Police will not condone any individual who will come to the Polling stations to obstruct the work of the detailed security personnel.
“We don’t need Party Security at the polling station. Polling agents are the only ones recognized. After voting, we expect electorates will leave the polling station. Don’t come to the polling station and block security officials.”
On whether National Security Operatives will be deployed, the IGP said National Security Operatives will not be deployed to any of the polling stations and if there is the need be, they should be reported for the Police to move in to arrest them.
In view of happenings in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency during the by-election, he said from the Committee level discussions, it was realized that the people who perpetrated the crimes of subjecting people to beating did not belong to any security agency.
